FLIGHT CHECK-IN

Check-in starts 2 hours before the flight and ends 50 minutes before take off time.

BAGAGE

The baggage, covered by the ticket price is up to 20 kg per adult passenger (up to 10kg for babies). Extra luggage will be charged at check in: DKK 25/ EUR 3 per kilogram.

  • Each baggage, including the hand baggage, must have a label, bearing the passenger's name and address
  • You are advised to take the important documents, valuable items and medication in your hand baggage.

Baby carriages, buggies and child seats are transported free of charge in the baggage compartment of the aircraft (no need of prior request). Each piece of baggage must have a label, bearing the passenger's name and address. Caring for the security and comfort of our passengers, only one piece of baggage not exceeding 5 kg and 45/35/15 cm (length/width/height) shall be accepted as hand baggage on board the aircraft. It is absolutely forbidden to put sharp and cutting items in the hand baggage such as knives and scissors!

DANGEROUS GOODS

Per the requirements of IATA it is forbidden to take dangerous goods on board the aircraft. Dangerous goods are deemed to be:

  • Any types of engines, including also outboard ones (except el. engines)
  • ocument cases and additionally coded brief cases with incorporated alarm systems, Lithium batteries and pyrotechnical materials
  • Explosives, fireworks, torches, light and fume signaling items
  • Gas containers (for flammable and non-flammable, deep frozen, liquidized or poisonous gases) for example for domestic purposes gas, filled in pressurized bottles
  • Containers with easily flammable liquids, for example gasoline for cigarette lighters or for clean up, heating liquids, detergents, thinners, varnishes, glues
  • Flammable and other easily flammable solid materials, such as matches, substances, self-igniting upon contacting water, self-igniting gases
  • Oxidizing substances, for example bleaching powders, super oxide
  • Poisonous or asphyxiating substances, for example mercury, bacterial or virus samples
  • Radioactive materials
  • Materials causing inflammations such as acids
  • Magnetized materials
TRANSPORTATION OF WHEEL CHAIRS

For passengers, wishing to check in their personal wheel chair, it is transported without adding it to the weight of the baggage, checked in for loading in the aircraft cargo compartment.

  • Electrical wheel chairs with dry batteries are transported, only provided that:
    • The connecting cable is disconnected from the battery
    • The battery poles are isolated
    • The battery is permanently installed on the wheel chair
  • Electric wheel chairs with liquid batteries are not transported on board the aircraft for security reasons.
TRANSPORTATION OF SPORTS EQUIPMENT

We offer a possibility for each of our passengers to transport for free /without payment/ one set of certain sports accessories, listed herein below /maximum weight of 20 kg/.

Each subsequent sports baggage /piece/ shall be charged in compliance with the currently effective tariff – DKK 25/ EUR 3 per kg.

Bicycles

Must be packed in carton/ suitcase.
For customers, traveling with the flight as a part of a package cycling tour, purchased from Penguin Travel, it is free of charge to check in one bicycle per person. The bicycle must be properly packed and labeled. In all other cases the fee is EUR 27/ DKK 200/ NOK 200/ SEK 250 per bicycle.

Ski/ Snowboard

For customers, traveling with the flight as a part of a package ski tour, purchased from Penguin Travel, it is free of charge to check in one pair of ski (snowboard) per person. The ski equipment must be properly packed and labeled. In all other cases the fee is EUR 20/ DKK 150/ NOK 150/ SEK 200 per pair.
Ski/ snowboard boots are considered a part of the normal checked-in luggage of the passenger and are included in the 20kg free of charge weight limit.

REGISTRATION OF SPORTS EQUIPMENT

SPORTIVE WEAPONS

Our clients may well take with them their sportive and hunting weapons. These weapons are subject to the following precautionary (security) measures, which must be absolutely complied with:

  • Weapons or other items, which can serve as such are allowed for check in only as baggage to be transported in the cargo compartments of the aircraft.
  • The weapons or other items, which can be used as such, must be packed and secured against break and tear (in their original vendor's packing)
  • The fire arms should not be loaded.
MUNITIONS
  • It is forbidden to take fire arms munitions in the passengers cabin
  • The maximum quantity of munitions allowed for air transport is 5 kg per passenger, loaded in the baggage compartment of the aircraft
  • This excludes munitions with exploding or fire-causing shell

The munitions must be packed securely in boxes or cartons.

TRANSPORTATION OF PETS

The transport of animals – household pets – is allowed on all flights as long as Penguin Travel has been given prior notice at least 3 days prior to departure.
The animal must be placed in an adequate animal carrier made from sufficiently strong material (plastic, fibreglass, wood, metal, etc...) with a non-porous bottom. The dimensions of the animal carrier must allow the animal to feel comfortable while being transported. It is the responsibility of the animal's owner to obtain an appropriate animal carrier. The animal’s owner is also required to obtain the necessary animal health card and to be aquatinted with and abide by all regulations concerning the transport of animals from the country of origin to the country of travel.
Animals of small size and weight up to 8 kg (puppies, kittens and birds) may be accepted for travel in the passenger cabin under the condition that the overall weight of the animal carrier and animal does not exceed 10 kg. The box cannot exceed 45 x 35 x 15 cm in order to fit under the seat in front of the passenger. No other hand luggage is allowed. Transportation fee - EUR 27/ DKK 200/ NOK 200/ SEK 250. The number of pets per passenger is limited to one. The number of animals that may be transported in the passenger cabin is limited to 2.
Pets (dogs and cats) whose weight with their animal carrier exceeds 10 kg will be placed in the heated and pressurised baggage compartment under the plane. Transportation fee: DKK/NOK/SEK 500.- / EUR 67.-
Service animals are not considered as pets in cabin and will be accepted at all times

SERVICES TO SICK AND HANDICAPPED PEOPLE. TRAVEL IN CASE OF PREGNANCY
PASSENGERS, TRAVELLING IN A WHEEL CHAIR

Passengers, traveling in wheel chairs, are checked in as all other passengers up to 90 minutes before departure at the Check-In. Please notify us in advance if you are traveling in a wheel chair. Registration should be made with our representative office in Sofia (tel. +359-2-4001057) or at email: info@penguin.bg during office hours (Monday-Friday, 09.30-18.00). Latest registration 3 days before departure.

PASSENGERS, WHO NEED ASSISTANCE AT THE AIRPORT

Should you need a wheel chair at the airport, f.ex. from check-in to the gate and from the airplane to the arrival’s hall, this can be arranged free of charge. Please notify our representative office in Sofia (tel. +359-2-4001057) or at email: info@penguin.bg during office hours (Monday-Friday, 09.30-18.00). Latest registration 3 days before departure.

PREGNANT PASSENGERS

During the last four weeks of pregnancy (the rule is from the 35th week on), pregnant women ought not to travel by air. Prior to that term there are no special requirements or constraints.
Anyhow, we recommend consulting your doctor prior to the flight.

TRAVEL OF UNACCOMPANIED CHILDREN

Please always check the authority regulations for travel of children abroad- certain rules apply for children up to a certain age traveling alone or with only one of the parents.
Children below 5 must always be accompanied by their parents or siblings over 16 years of age or by other persons over 18 years of age.
Provided it is necessary for your child to travel alone, we unfortunately cannot guarantee that a flight attendant will be put in charge of the child during the flight or the customs procedures, so please take this into consideration before booking his/her ticket.

BAGGAGE LOSS OR DAMAGE

We recommend that you have your baggage insured before travelling.

The liability of Bulgarian Air Cahrter for checked-in baggage is in compliance with the rules of IATA –the airline is responsible for your baggage from check in until its receipt upon arrival. The airline is not responsible for the safety of hand luggage.
Important! Should a piece of luggage happen to be damaged or lost during the flight, contact the "Lost and Found" desk immediately upon your arrival at the respective airport. A protocol for damages (Property Irregularity Report) shall be filled in by the handling operator and given to you before you go out into the Arrival’s hall.

DAMAGED LUGGAGE
  • check your insurance policy and contact the insurance company for compensation.
  • If your insurance does not cover baggage damage, contact us (preferably by email at info@flybulgarien.dk ) with details about the damaged piece of luggage. We will need scanned copies of your:
  • flight ticket;
  • baggage tag;
  • property irregularity report;
  • receipt for purchasing the suitcase/bag, proving its value;
  • document, evaluating the possible fee for repairment of the suitcase by a workshop.

We will then refund either the value of the suitcase at the time of its purchasing or the costs for repairment of the damages.

LOST LUGGAGE
  • it can take the Airline up to 20 working days to track and return your lost suitcase.If the lost piece of luggage is not found within this period:
  • check your insurance policy and contact the insurance company for compensation.
  • If your insurance does not cover baggage loss, contact us (preferably by email) with details about the lost piece of luggage. We will need scanned copies of your:
  • flight ticket;
  • baggage tag;
  • property irregularity report;

We will then make sure that you get a compensation for your lost luggage by the airline (up to USD 20 per kg).

CUSTOMS FORMALITIES AND LIMITATIONS

A "Passenger" is any individual passing the state borderline of the Republic of Bulgaria.
Upon crossing the state borderline of the Republic of Bulgaria passengers may import and export commodities that in type, quantities, and value are not of a commercial nature. These do not include objects the passenger carry for personal use and consumption objects. Passengers have the right to import at no custom duty or import fees the objects necessary to the foreign individuals for their stay in the country, which in their type and quantity correspond to both purpose and the duration of their stay, as well as consumption objects:

  • tobacco products (passengers over 16 years of age)
    • cigarettes - 200 items
    • or other tobacco products - 250 gr
  • Alcoholic beverages (passengers over 16 years of age)
    • wine - 2 litres
    • alcoholic liquors - 1 litre
  • other drinks
    • coffee - 500 gr
    • or coffee extract - 200 gr
    • tea - 100 gr
    • or tea extract - 40 gr
  • cosmetics
    • perfumes - 50 ml
    • toilet water - 0.250 ml
